I'm sure there are underlying changes going on that aren't apparent to the naked eye, or maybe even the person, but when it presents it can and does happen quickly. I've seen many times.

My switch could take as little as 15 minutes. The descent into depression was crushing. I cycled like this without fail for over 2 years. It stopped when lithium was introduced. Unfortunately, it left me stuck in the depressive phase without remission.
