In reply to Who's tried tianeptine? (Stablon, Coaxil, etc?), posted by Racer on April 7, 2008, at 9:45:24
I'm still taking the Coaxil brand, and I've been on it just over three weeks. I've taken it on about three seperate occasions in the past, and I keep coming back to it. It's the only antidepressant bar Parnate that has actually worked for me. It's not a spectacularly powerful antidepressant like Parnate, but I think part of the attraction is that it acutally works pretty well while having almost no side effects. Like Sigismund, I found it showed promise from day one. I felt the full effect by the second or third day - no waiting around for weeks like with SSRIs.
It tends to have a mellowing effect, maybe similar to codeine or amisulpride, although there is no noticeable high or 'rush', just a sense of 'glowing calm', if you will. I find it decreases my anxiety too, although not as much as a benzo. I sort of feel safer and more insulated. I've also noticed a reduction in physical (maybe fibromyalgia) pain. The recommeneded dose is three 12.5mg tablets a day, but I've taken as many as four a day in the beginnning to speed up the antidepressant response. Some days I take only two, it depends on how I'm feeling. Tianeptine is like that - you can adjust your dose to how you feel, a bit like with a benzo. Some days I find three or four tablets would make me feel a little 'too' calm, it's hard to describe, but almost like I'm too laid back about everything for comfort. I guess I must prefer to keep a competitive edge or something. Anyway, it's a good drug and I'd highly recommend you give it try whenever you can.
