It is unfortunately true that many doctors know very little about brain chemistry and how it relates to the drugs they prescribe. However, studying chemistry would not necessarily have taught you much about it, either. On the other hand, it would have taught you how to synthesise compounds, which would be very useful knowledge as you would no longer have to rely on buying the drugs you need, but rather prepare them in your laboratory. I'll look into that some day.
