The general theory with mood stabilizers is that it is desired they keep your moods from cycling. No mood swings or roller coaster rides up an down. You might still be down on a mood stabilizer. The idea is to stop the cycling. Then other things can be added, if needed, to lift the mood. However, some people do find mood stabilizers to be good mood enhancers. As with any brain medication, they can make a person feel worse in a minority of cases. I would not count on a mood stabilizer making you feel happy. But it does happen. The main goal is to stop cycling and have an even mood to build upon.
