Any psych drug can cause serotonin syndrome. Even prozac all by itself or st johns wort all by itself can. When two drugs are combined the risk is increased. Don't actually see it happen hardly ever. I think I was on the edge of it once with a wild cocktail of meds.

Remeron and effexor has not been in the spotlight for a few years but it used to be popular as the treatment resistant combination. It had a name...California Rocketfuel.

I never heard of anyone getting serotonin syndrom from this combo. There was person here about 10 years ago that took a maximum dose of effexor and a medium dose of remeron and probably still is since he doesn't ever come here any more. He was doing very well.
