professional advice - ADD SPECT scan.

Posted by aminos4me on November 3, 2007, at 21:55:38

I have recently been diagnosed with ADD by a specialist. He was comfortable enough with his diagnosis that he didnt see it necessary to run a SPECT scan.

However ive just been taken on by the public health system (yay free everything) and they have different views and were shocked that i was on dex.

I have responded to dex like a textbook ADD patient would.
Quick example... sleeping 3am - 3pm wakeing up wrecked before i went on dex. After the first day of being on it i now sleep midnight to 8am and i wake without an alarm feeling refreshed.

My new public psychiatrist wants me to stop taking the dex, so now im going to get the specialist to organise a SPECT scan.

I am really worried that maybe the public psychiatrist is right, and if i get the test done and it comes back negative i will be taken off this med (the only one that works).

Is it possible for me to still be ADD even if a SPECT scan comes back negative? Meaning the specialist could still prescribe it for me.

Any advice appreciated, thank you!
