> Sounds to me like a case of hypotension. If you have not been on MAOIs very long and rise suddenly, the dizziness, etc. is a very common side effect. They symptoms of hypertension are very subtle or nonexistant until the BP is very high. I went to the walk-in clinic today for a sinus infection. The nurse checked my BP at 160/100. I had them recheck it, because it has never been that high. Normally it runs at 130/70 or so. After a couple of hours, that is what it measured at home(127/72). The MAOIs act as an anti-hypertensive medication, unless you are increasing your tyramine level also. I did drink several cups of coffee before I went to the clinic, but I've been doing that for 10 years on MAOIs. Anybody have an idea what may have caused the spike in BP. I hadn't eaten anything yet on that day, so I don;t think it was tyramine.

Well this is the first time anything like this has happened since I started the Parnate, so I was actually hoping that it would happen again (to let me know that at least I'm continuing to have some reaction to the med - even if the reaction is negative).For all of these weeks it's felt like I've been taking sugar pills. And the dizziness yesterday (combined with my lack of coordination while rowing) are really the first signs that the med is beginning to have some effect.
And I haven't been following my doc's orders to avoid coffee (b/c otherwise I'd be even more solemnolescent that i already am);
I've been taking about 800 mgs of caffeine tabs on most days since starting the Parnate; that's WAAAAAAAY too much I know, but if I didn't I'd be asleep and wouldn't be doing anything productive - not that I'm that productive anyway these days.
And as I said, I start and internship in a few weeks, and really need to be extremely alert as I'm trying to get a job as a personal trainer. I doubt that I can start an internship like this by having to explain to the boss that I'm on some med that cause extreme fatigue and ask them to make allowances for that; what happens when I actually start training clients?
The thing is that I'm terrified of failing at this but my doc refuses to prescribe Provigil - acc. to him, it's too dangerous to be combining any kind of stimulant with an MAOI.
Any ideas on how I can convince him otherwise? I know that there are others on here on MAOIS and Provigil at the same time with no probs.
