Actually it does have a somewhat short half life, but longer than Seroquel, about 12 hours, so twice daily. It is vaguely similar to Zyprexa having a sort of benzodiazepine related structure but does have more other types of side effects and probably less EPS than Zyprexa or Seroquel.
You must have 6 months of white blood cell counting (approx 24-26 weekly blood draw tests) to prove against agranulocytosis (low white blood cells). Discontinuation is mandatory in around 2% of patients.
If any unusual fever occurs, testing for agranulocytosis should be done, if it is a high fever, doctors should evaluate promptly for Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome.
The Lamictal would cover the chance of seizures on Clozaril which can be as high as 5%, so any AED or benzodiazepine would be appropriate for that. Can't say I've heard of Lamictal being used for weight. Maybe Topamax, for a small part of the population.
The clinic must cover all these blood tests and they should definately give you a baseline AIMS test and a test further into treatment to see any progress on TD.
It is weighted with side effects, but it is considered a gold standard for schizophrenia.
I'm sorry to hear that your onset was that early. However, early intervention is a key in schizophrenia.
I wish you luck in getting over the hurdles of this, but most all the above either should or must be done, I don't know if it is distributed in EU/EMEA by Novartis or another maker, but I imagine they have the same restricted policy.
