This is just my opinion, but to me an emotion is much more temporary than a mood, though I'm specifically thinking of a "mood state" and not a "mood" the way people talk about it when they don't have experience with a psychiatric disorder.

Also, I think of emotion as having a precipitant and of mood as having no cause, just happening bc your brain wiring is faulty, know what I mean?
