In reply to BOTOX for depression? A New Hope?, posted by JerryPharmStudent on November 27, 2006, at 4:17:56
I think you should give it a try- I tried this and found it to be a very powerful augmentor to antidepressants and other efforts.I didn't discuss my theories with the dermatologist though- I don't think most of them are so equipped to deal with serious mental health issues- but I did say something about how I wanted to look less stressed, and she found this to be very reasonable and understandable, adding that a lot of people said this.
My interest wasn't changing my appearance, aging, or anything like that, but in whether I wasn't carrying too much stress in my expressions too often-affecting or reinforcing my own poor mood as well as somehow broadcasting my mood to other people when I didn't want to. With the botox, I look the same, but more apt to feel "lighter", for lack of better word. Also casual social interactions changed drastically for the better. As I looked less strained, I felt less strained, and interactions became far easier and livelier. The more positive feelings snowballed and reinforced themselves. If that's a placebo- bring it on! I would not say it did anything like "cure" me, but it sure has helped. To make a long story short, I'm feeling awfully curious about "microexpressions" these days.
> I've just read about the study using Botox for severe depression - and I want to know if anyone has tried this? I'm making an appointment with my dermatologist to talk about this becuase - even tho the study was small - the results were close to curing depression.
