In reply to cholinesterase inhibitor donepezil for apathy?, posted by craiggetty on November 12, 2006, at 14:21:53
i have episodes of being able to notice much more and feel much more of my surroundings. they don't last for me. i am hoping it gets better.
i may try galantamine again, but on that i tend to get hyper-talkative and even aggressive, an already consistent part of my personality that i despise and humiliates me all the time.
for me donepezil hasn't been depressiogenic. my first try, i think it was, where this effect had quite a rapid onset. i felt like my face was warping and drooping to the floor. it was hard to get up and try to do things without getting into tears. i went off of it. my response (or lack thereof) now may indicate that this is transient.
there is some suggestion that aricept is stronger than galantamine at least for dementia. it may not be that aricept is more cholinergic, but rather, that galantamine is too catecholaminergic through its nicotonic receptor stimulation. aricept decreases nicotinic receptor stimulation, while galantamine increases it.
