My psychiatrist explained med increases to me this way: "you keep increasing the dosage until you experience side you can't tolerate. It's like filling a bathtub and making sure it doesn't overflow". It's a simplistic explanation and that's why I like it. Maybe you just needed to stay at 30 mg for a longer period. Now you need to decrease the med slowly, until you no longer feel the irritability BUT still feel the positive effects of the med.

Is there any other reason why you have become irritable? Are you sure it's the med?

> I'm currently on Cymbalta, which originally on 30 mgs I found helpful for my anxiety & depression. I was still feeling blah, so we raised it eventually to 120 mgs. It seemed that about the same time I became more irritable and depressed. When I told my pdoc this he thought it was odd, because usually levels are raised to get a more positive response rather than lowered.
