Hey Tom!
I'm sorry to hear this. But its not all bad news...and at least it explains your fatigue!!
Have a peek at (if you haven't already done so!):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilberts_syndrome
"Gilbert's syndrome (pr. Zhil-bear), often shortened to the acronym GS, the most common hereditary cause of increased unconjugated bilirubin, is found in about 5% of the population. The main symptom is elevated bilirubin (hyperbilirubinemia) leading to otherwise harmless mild jaundice which does not require treatment."
"The Gilbert's syndrome produces an elevated level of unconjugated bilirubin in the bloodstream but normally has no other effect. Rarely, mild jaundice may appear.
Some patients report experiencing unpleasant physical symptoms during episodes of high bilirubin levels. They may report persistent or meal-related fatigue, dizziness, tremors, nausea, abdominal pain, and "brain fog", with or without jaundice.[1] Because patients may be unaware of their condition but conscious of apparent jaundice, they may present these otherwise harmless symptoms at urgent-care facilities needlessly.
There is some evidence that Gilbert's syndrome also reduces the liver's ability to detoxify certain drugs, e.g. the chemotherapy drug irinotecan (see below). However, it appears that acetaminophen metabolism is not affected in Gilbert's syndrome[2]."
Kind regardsMeri
Phew!
