Klonopin was the only thing I found after years of trying meds that tackled the anxiety you describe. The secret for me was finding the lowest dose that was effective. At first, when taking lower doses starting at .5 then 1mg, it didn't work, I thought about getting off of it. But my doctor encouraged me to stay with it and go up on the dose.
It wasn't until I got up to 2mgs that I got great anxiety relief. Over the last 12 years I've bounced between 2 and 3 mgs, but found 2mgs worked as good as 3, but 1mg was not effective.
I think benzo's like klonopin are one of the best choices for treating an anxiety disorters, but again, the right dose is key. Most people seem to land between 1 and 4mgs of klonopin for it to be effective for true anxiety disorters (though some do get away with less, some need more).
In my opinion I'd talk to your doctor about going up on the klonopin and seeing if you get the relief you deserve. I know it's hell to live with the anxiety you describe.
It's just one opinion of many on anxiety, but I know klonopin at higher doses worked majic of me and has for others as well. I think the biggest reason for failure rates or looking for other med combos to treat "anxiety" is just not taking a theraputic dose. That said, it's not helpful treating depression. Best of luck.
