I've written here about exactly the same thing a couple times-I don't think docs realize the effect they have on their patients- they are like much of society, quite demeaning of mental illness. In the local paper, a doc's column (Dr. Gott) has much the same attitude. The better docs are more "let's get you feeling better"-and don't seem to be so paternal about the meds. I'm babbling, but my point is that I'm in complete sympathy-I've felt that guilt when I felt like I was "begging" for my med script every time I went to the doc's. Then there is the stress of "my Gosh, will he refill the script????". Chalk it up to ignorance on the part of the medical community. I think they should administer a drug to all physicians before they start practice that gives them 1 month of severe depression and anxiety. Their ignorance would disappear. The Zen equivalent of "enlightenment". :>}
