Matt,
It may very well be due to ADHD that you feel more stable on a stimulant. Kids with ADHD can actually suffer from not enough stimulation. I know it seems counter-intuitive. But that's how stimulants help those kids who truly have ADHD. It provides just enough additional stimulation that they can settle down.

You might want to think about going for an assessment, including neuropsychological testing specific for ADHD. ADHD symptoms can continue into adulthood, and many adults with ADHD continue to benefit from taking stimulant medications under the direction of their doctor.

I started taking Provigil recently for my own ADHD symptoms. It's helping some. I'm not as impulsive in my behavior or in speaking. I do wonder how I'd do on Adderall or Ritalin, but I can't take those with Nardil.

Given the symptoms you've described over the last year or so, I think it might be really helpful to get a diagnostic psychological assessment, which can confirm ADHD and help your doc with coming up with the most effective treatment. Perhaps it might also help your mother to better understand you. An accurate diagnosis can go a long way towards this.

Good luck.
