In reply to Selegiline/Deprenyl effective anti-depressant?, posted by LizinManhattan on February 7, 2006, at 21:35:15
I have been dealing with depression for +30 years. I have tried many ssri and tricyclics, and for one reason or another, I cannot take them. SSRI's make me apathetic; tricyclics leave me tired and aggravate my prostate. I tried Wellbutrin, but wound up being allergic to it. I have been doing research on psychopharmacology for years, and as the stuff I have self-medicated with in the past seems to work on the neurotransmitter Dopamine, I thought I'd give the MAO-B inhibitor Selegiline a try. I have been on it a week (5 mg/day) and have not noticed anything. Can anyone tell me if I need a higher dose? I know only 5-10mg is needed for Parkinson's patients--what is the effective dose range for co-morbid anxiety and depression?
