Can Abilify make psychosis worse?

Posted by Benjamin23 on December 2, 2005, at 21:44:17

I read something like this on a PubMed Abstract I think when I was looking up Abilify and I wondered if anyone knew about this.
I'm taking Abilify right now for OCD and I'm worried about the side effects.
One thing I don't understand is if it is a dopamine agonist, shouldn't it make psychosis issues worse?
I mean, yes, I understand that it's more complicated than that and that for people with schizophrenia or psychosis it really does help, but what about people who are taking it for other uses? Does the dopamine agonist action do the opposite for people like me who are taking it for OCD?
Also, my Pdoc suggested that there would be some issue with smoking pot and taking an atypical at the same time... I don't understand this, I would think that the atypical would help counteract any sort of effects from marijuana (given that pot can augment psychosis and atypicals are used to treat it).

I know this is a lot of questions and it's my first time posting on here, but these issues are really worrying and confusing me.

Any advice would be appreciated.
