8 hours seems ok. Problem is my sleep pattern is always all over the place. I love haveing little sleep, I seem to function better. And a short nap is fine but not every day. It means things dont get done. And like you say, falling asleep can become difficult.
I definitely have a sleep disorder but never been diagnosed. I've always found it highly and unusually difficult to wake up in the morning, since being a toddler. Maybe I should research more and try to get tested, if such tests exist.
