I'd also add to that article that docs (pdocs and GP's) do not get adequate info about how to take patients off of their meds. About 2 yrs ago, when my pdoc wanted to take me off of paxil, she told me that I could do so quickly if I switched it for prozac. She had read an article that said that this was a good strategy. IT WAS NOT! I was so out of it for about 6 weeks and suicidally depressed (I was depressed before, but this was much worse). I would consider my pdoc to be well educated and generally a great pdoc, but she simply did not have access to enough info on this topic. It is a huge problem.
Gee, I guess drug reps don't really want to talk to docs about how to get OFF of their medication!!
