What would the doctor do?

Posted by Squiggles on July 27, 2005, at 8:10:50

I think that the side effects, the
memory lapse after chronic AD use,
and the unfortunate emotive words
describing depression (unlike Alzheimer's
for example which is never questioned as
a real biological illness), may drive
some people to think that they either do
not have depression, or no longer have
depression or depression is not really
a biological illness -- and consquently
drop their drugs or their dose or take
something inappropriate -- like chamomile
tea for clinical depression.

How do I convince my friend to believe
current medical opinions, before she
jumps off the bridge, so to speak.

I have tried reasoning, evidence, literature,
authorities' opinions, and personal
testimonials. I really think the DSM has
to change the word "depression" - call it
neural degeneration or something for people
to change their mindset.

Thanks

Squiggles
