Prozac takes a little longer than the other antidepressants because it takes longer for a therapeutic level to build up in the body. I think 6 weeks is a reasonable length of time for this drug.

My guess is that Cymbalta helped the anxiety almost right away. This might not be the case with Prozac. Prozac can actually cause anxiety initially. This may or may not disappear, but if you are going into a trial of Prozac, this is a side effect that you should be aware of. If your anxiety is actually a symptom of the depressive illness itself, it should get better when the depression begins to remit.

If the depression seems to get worse, and yourself having suicidal thoughts, contact your doctor as soon as possible. Just about every antidepressant has the potential to make someone feel worse if it is a bad chemical match for their system.
