Hi there - I have been taking Effexor XR, 375mg/day for about 4 years, after taking Prozac on and off since 1992. It's hard for me to evaluate how effective Effexor has been over those years, but to make a long story short -- I need a change. To complicate things, I am moved recently so am "starting over" with a new prescriber (LPN with Psych specialty).
What we are trying first is "lithium augmentation" -- started about 1 week ago with 300mg/day, increased to twice a day two days ago. My dose of Effexor XR remains the same. I am getting labs tomorrow to test by blood for lithium levels, etc.
The first couple of days I had very mild headaches which went away. Since then what I have mainly noticed is that my head feels a bit "fuzzy" -- not dizzy or nauseous, sorta blurry vision, just kind of unfocused/trembly mental energy in general. The odd thing is that these side effects appear to be more associated with the Effexor, rather than the Lithium. Anyone have any comments?
Also, if the Lithium does not pan out, the next thing LPN wants to try is adding Risperdal to the Effexor. Any comments on this would also be appreciated -- I know next to nothing about that drug.
And finally, has anyone else had excessive sweating as a side effect of Effexor? I just noticed that for the first time on the list of side effects, and it was like a light bulb going off in my head -- maybe that's why I'm all drippy every morning! ;)
Thanks and have a good evening everybody.
