Tiredguy,
I'm glad you gave Effexor a shot without letting fear decide for you.
I too was scared to try it after a bad experience with Paxil, but it has done wonders for me. I had a few minor side effects, but they were no big deal. Now I feel great, much more balanced and way less irritable, depressed and anxious than I used to. I don't want to go off of it, that's how good I feel. I'm only on 37.5 mg per day. I really noticed a difference between Effexor and Effexor XR. The XR is much smoother and less noticable, and I feel more relaxed than the Effexor. I've been on it for eight months now.
My boyfriend, friends and family have noticed a big difference and say I am much calmer and less depressed looking than I used to be. Now I can look back at the old me and chuckle at how uptight and tense I was, instead of getting upset about it. I can laugh at things now, rather than blow up. Mind you, I still have my set backs. I'm not 100% cured, but I'm half way there! It's really opened my eyes, and since I've been on it, my life has changed for the better. I've made better choices, and am on my way to going to school full time to pursue my dream job: professional writing!
I still have a wierd but cool side effect. When I wake up in the middle of the night in a half-asleep dream like state, I kind of hallucinate and see trippy colourful animated digital-like images, usually shapes and lines. When I fully wake up, they're gone, but when I'm half asleep, I see them in the dark, or in the light. It doesn't scare me at all, since I think it's partially a sleep related effect of the medication. Anyone else have this experience on meds?
Also, when I sleep in on the weekends, I feel quite numb physically and light headed, and it takes me forever to wake up and get going. But once I do, I feel pretty good.
Let me know how you're doing on Effexor!

> Colleen, It seems like you had great success with Effexor. Why did you stop taking it?
> BTW, I’m on my third day. No stomach aches or side effects as of yet.
