to those that SSRI's don't work, or make worse

Have you found any relief for anx/dep from others than ssri's and benzos?
SSRI's (and the nri's) throw me for a huge loop and make me way worse. I'm a little reluctant to try the TCA's, cause aren't they in effect doing the same thing, working on the same transmitters?
If not, what else? MAOI's?
