THis can happen if you have ADHD and taking stimulants, athough I still "knock the pdoc of his chair" when I tell him that I can sleep on Adderall. The theory is that when amphetamine is administered to someone with a meso-limbic and cortical hypodopamine situation. Meaning that there is not enough dopamine getting from the meso limbic to the cortical areas of your frontal lobes. Therefore, the consequence is a lack of ability to control executive functions (ADHD) symptoms. I also researched that this may also cause one type of social anxiety and moderate depression. All these disorders could be lumped together and be called Dopamine hypofuntion disorder. (remember this is just theory) So when you take the amphetamine, which is an agonist of Dopamine, it sends more dopamine to the frontal lobes (and actually the whole brain), and stimulates them. In Attention disorders, the frontal lobes tend to be underactive. So when you stimulate them, it allows you to focus, relax, plan, organize, and when the frontal lobes are active, it will relax you, and possibly even a bit tired. Thats the paradoxial meaning of giving stimulants to people who seem "stimulated" (i.e. restless, uncomforatable, frustratated, etc.) And also when you are relaxed, thats why adderall may relieve some aspects of social anxiety for some, exspecially with a combination of something like Klonopin. However the biggest side effect with stimulants is people cannot sleep. The is probably in those individuals, the stimulants are affecting other parts of the brain that regulate sleep. Depending on your "Wiring" So even for me, believe it or not, if I feel "unfocused" right when I go to sleep, I may take a small amount of adderall, I become focus, comfortable, and relaxed. Therefore I am out like a lamp. Hope I shedded some insight..I just like neuroscience stuff about dopamine and ADHD.
