> But more important is which generic works best? I dont have coverage and am a college student with next to no cash flow, so Id like to avoid brand name if possible. Ive heard of in addition to above of brands mylan, robaxi, and titer or something like that. Anyone know? Thanks Tom
Upon realizing that the Mylan generic I got on my first prescription was essentially ineffective, I posed that same question here several months ago.
"Chemist" explained about the FDA's Electronic Orange Book, found at http://www.fda.gov/cder/ob/default.htm, and how *in theory* the generics were supposed to be as good as the name brand. He gave his opinion about the rankings of the various brands.
Meanwhile, on the first refill I switched to name brand Ativan, and found it so much more effective, that it seemed practically a different drug than the generic.
As each pharmacy tends to carry just one generic brand, it would be hard to test each one out, and the archives here didn't reveal any clear cut winner, so I'm sticking with name brand.
People have reported an the relative qualities of Xanax here, so maybe if you search the archives for that, and see if they have a lorazepam in the Orange Book, that generic may possibly be good.
BTW, what was the name of the Canadian generic, and do they have a US product available?
As a footnote, though the Orange Book lists Biovail the the name brand for Ativan, as Biovail bought Wyeth recently, the pharamacies still regard Wyeth as the name brand.
