Hi:
I have severe GAD and found that Klonopin was the only medication to have any impact on the physical aspects of the anxiety, and it has a calming affect on my emotions. The only thing it didn't help with completely, was the incessant worrying thoughts. I started on 1mg per day + .25mg as needed during the day for extra stressful times.
That was 15 months ago. I am now down to .5mg per day, taken at bedtime. i also take 5mg Celexa (a VERY low dose) for the racing thoughts. This combo has worked well for my GAD and any associated depression that arose every now and then after intense stress.
Klonopin caused no side effects, beyond sedation for the first 10-14 days. It does have some affect on my short term memory though.
I have found no tolerance build-up to it, actually the contrary, since I was able to drop the dose and still get therapeutic benefits.
The Celexa gives me side-effects, even at this low dose. So I might look for another adjunct med to Klonopin.
Good luck to you!!!
Jas
