Turns out that elevated blood pressure is a newly discovered side effect of Effexor. I'd never heard that, but my new pdoc said it had turned out to be a real concern with a fair number of his patients on it.

Do get it checked out, and then talk to your doctor about whether to try to mitigate that effect or to switch drugs. If Effexor is working for you, it may make more sense to treat the blood pressure, but if it's not working great, or there are other options for the depression, switching may be a better solution. Many other ADs lower blood pressure, so there are choices.
