There is a common tendency to confuse/confound addiction and physiological dependency, and it is usually used by people with the intent of bringing emotional stigmas to bear on an issue of private concern. An insulin-dependent diabetic is not stigmatized. Why should a benzodiazapine-dependent GAD sufferer be so stigmatized?
