Hi Chris:
In my personal experience, ... if there is/are any other meds. for your condition, most of pdocs. do NOT rx anti-psycho.med., especially a potent A.P., Zyprexa. Then, in my guess, ... your pdoc. rxes other form of med. for your condition, at least until he/she sees you more often. In the beginning of Bp dx., I was on Depakote, from 750 mg. to 1250 mg. depending on my moods and symptoms. It's one of most widely rxed med. for Bp, due to simply working well on Bp condition. Also, it is much milder than those AP meds.
In my case, the reason why I've been on the Zyprexa is due to the complexity of my Bp condition, mostly 'ultra-rapid cycler' and 'dysphoric/rageous manic.' Without the Zyprexa, my cycling is like 'crazy,' which sends me 'very' discomfort both mentally and emotionally. The Zyprexa helping me a great deal in all areas of my Bp.
In your case, ... just dxed with Bp, I doubt your pdoc. rxed the Zyprexa, as said the above. Possibly, Depakote if you compalin about your condition.
For me, Depakote did not offer any weight, but everyone reacts differently on different med., then I can NOT be sure in your case.Hopefully, everything going well for you at your pdoc.'s visit this week.
H.G.
