In reply to Sulpiride for Social Anxiety? Long term use?, posted by zuzu80 on May 7, 2004, at 7:44:12
> Sorry, I didn't take Sulpiride but I did take Amisulpride. It definitely helped with negative thoughts and situational anxiety, but then pooped out after 4-5 months. I stopped taking it, then restarted about 3 months later. It had the same efficacy as when I had first started. However, I ran out of pills and the place I ordered it from ran out of stock, so I haven't been on Amisulpride since. I consider it a great additive for Social Anxiety, in combination with one of the following: adrafinil or small dose klonopin. Search the boards for other combos using sulpiride or amisulpride, as I remember there were a few people who had success with specific combos.
Side effects for me included drowsiness in for the first couple weeks, but not much else.

> Sulpiride is used at high doses 800-1200mg for the treatment of Schizophrenia. At those high doses it inhibits dopamine activity.

> However, at low doses 50-150mg, it blocks dopamine's autoreceptors, and thus gives a signal to the cells to release more dopamine.

> P.S. I got the feeling of the "extra" dopamine when I gave Rhodiola Rosea a try. It was very effective for anxiety and made me much more gregarious. I had to stop taking Rhodiola because I been put on Wellbutrin (for mild concentration problems).
