In reply to two very important questions about GEODON, posted by sdjeff on April 24, 2004, at 23:47:16
fellow posters:
i had been diagnosed bipolar in 2000 and suffer both the symptoms of my ailment and side effects of treatment...
i have been taking seroquel and neurontin since then and have gained 60 lbs. totally in two divided increments. i also suffer from hypersomnia and sleep no less than 10 hours per night.
i am currently attempting a trial with ziprasidone / geodon and hope this will allow me to shed a few pounds. any insight?
the geodon causes slight akithisia (restlessness) mid-afternoon, but i don't know what to suggest to my pdoc ... inderal, currently used, also may cause weight gain. this would contradict the rationale for trying geodon. any insight?
completely opposite of what i have experienced on seroquel, geodon keeps me awake all night. i have tried klonopin and other benzos, but the effectiveness quickly wears off. any insight?
finally, the vertigo (dizziness) i experience on geodon is completely disabling. i have heard that antihistamines may work, but these, too, cause weight gain. perhaps an anticholinergic? any insight?
some wisdom... i, too, have heard that the uncomfortable side effects of geodon decrease as the dosage increases. while this may be true over time ... i am still (months later) waiting to regain my sleep time and stability (non-dizziness) while on 120 mg. (60 mg. bid) per day. it seems a more proactive approach than waiting may pay off.
please help. thank you.
