Omegas are essential fatty acids which are necessary for healthy cardiovascular system also a healthy nervous system. I take 4000mg/day. I have not ran into anybody who can say that they manage mood disorders, depression, or anxiety, but I do believe that they play a vital role in overall wellbeing. Andrew Stoll M.D.,[Director of the Havard Psychopharmacology lab] has written a text written a text called The Omega-3 Connection. He claims that 1 to 2 grams/1000-2000mgs enhance health, mood and cognition, however, for mood disorders I have not found this to be true [even at the higher doses]. I take them purely for cardio health.
It is worth your time to read it, because it may help you or augment your current therapy. I am not a psychiatrist, but I do recommend them for some of my people.
Regards, MicroP.S. There are no harmful side effects due to fish oils. You may experience some Flatulence if you start taking them, but it is transient. Also, it is thought that vitamin E enhances omegas efficacy. Some are not as pure as others as well. Too fishy of an odor is a sign of poor product. They should only have a very faint odor!
