Geodon withdrawal - how long does it last?

I've been on geodon 80mg twice a day for a year and would like to get off it or switch to another. I've heard horror stories about withdrawal from the drug. Has anyone successfully gone through the withdrawal process? For how long and what did you experience. I tried doing it on my own, cutting in half, and the withdrawal was horrible. Woke up sweating in the middle of the night, palpitations, and my whole body was throbbing.
