I've been on Effexor-XR 75mg for 12 months now and my main concern that has me asking the females here is that I have stopped having my period for the last 4 nearly 5 months.
Before I went on Effexor I was abit irregular but thats sort of expected in younger women but never ever have I gone this long without a period and its really worrying. Before effexor I never missed a period any month all year.
I saw my GP about it in December 2003 and he said I should trial going off my meds then go back to see him if i dont feel well (i went to see him because I had ran out of repeats and needed a new script).
I knew in myself that it was a bad time of the year (really busy period at work and xmas chaos) to go through the gruelling withdrawal symptoms that come with coming off Effexor. (I also had a pregnancy test which came back negative and I have not been sexually active since due to relationship break-up etc).So I kept myself on them and had hoped to god that I'd get my period and not need to go off them. My depression is really strong atm and my therapist also thinks it would do more harm to go off my meds than good.
Time has passed since then and still no menstral cycle. I'm turning 20 this year and this is a really worrisome issue for a woman of my age and any other woman I'm sure. I'm now worried it may affect my chances of being fertile in the future.
So, I couldn't get in to see my GP this week and hes going on holidays next week. However, my medication runs out sometime next week so i booked in to see a different doctor i havent seen before.
I just wanted to see if there are any other women out there who have experienced similiar problems to this and whether they changed drugs or stopped completely. My GP didn't really give me much insight in my last visit so I'm hoping for more luck with a different doc.
I'm worried, this doesn't feel right. My female instincts are telling me there's something very wrong about this yet my depression is saying I wont be able to handle going off my meds now.Any help/advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks for reading :)
