If you're concerned about liver damage from acetaminophen (I think I spelled that correctly), some of these opioid painkillers have versions with ibuprofen etc. instead, which isn't as hard on the liver.
I happen to be allergic to (or at least get a rash from) acetaminophen (Tylenol etc.). It's weird, since I don't have other allergies. Anyway, when I've needed painkillers from dentists etc. I always insist on Vicoprofen (hydrocodone + ibuprofen) instead of Vicodin (hydrocodone + acetaminophen). Darvocet is Darvon + acetaminophen, but there's also Darvon alone, and I think Darvon with other anti-inflammatories (I've never actually tried any form of Darvon).
One tipoff to presence of acetaminophen is a drug name ending in "cet". If you're concerned about acetaminophen, you should ask the prescriber whether there's an alternative without it, since there sometimes is.
