Just a thought, but perhaps Concerta, a smooth and long-acting form of methylphenidate, the active chemical in Ritalin, is worth a shot? You'd be able to avoid those "crashes", and perhaps a little clonidine before bed (note: not "Klonopin" -- "clonidine"; just wanted to emphasize this, as even many pharmacists get the two mixed up :-) would help you wind down and avoid that crash?
