My neice works as a secretary in a counseling office and says many insurance companies won't cover dysthmia, so despite intraoffic workshops on ethics, the diagnosis is changed to "adjustment disorder." My neice will read the intake sheets and notes to herself that the adjustment the client is making is an inability to deal with life. (She herself falls into that category so she isn't being judgemental about the client, only the system.) I've read contributions here about people with adjustment disorders and I wonder how many are really dealing with other problems entirely but are diagnosed according to the payment system of their insurance plan. Is this common?
