Effexor not working anymore?

Hello everyone,
I read through some of the threads but couldn't find this topic. If I missed it, I apoligize.
Six weeks ago my hubby started taking Effexor, 75 mg. In about a week he noticed a marked change, it was great! But, as time went on he could tell that he needed more. So, last week he went to the dr and they upped him to 150 mg a day. WOW! In two days I had the guy I married back! But, it only lasted about 4 days. Now he is really down again, says it is worse than before he started.
We called the dr today, he said wait another week and see. Well hubby didn't like that and still had some 75 mg laying around and took that with one 150 mg. Guess what.. no change. Sigh!!!
So anyone experience this? Thoughts? Ideas?
