I would think it's okay to switch from Klonopin to XanaxSR (I didn't know Xanax now comes in an SR formulation) because both of these meds are in the same class of drug - benzodiazepam. The main difference that I know of is that Klonopin is long-acting (long half-life) and gradual whereas Xanax (at least the regular one) is very fast acting - it goes in your system, calms you down, then leaves, so often people have to pop several a day. I would imagine the SR version of Xanax is more like Klonopin, which would make it even easier to switch.

Ask your pdoc for a schedule for tapering off one and titrating up on the other. Benzos are addictive.
