In reply to just a question?, posted by kinsey on July 4, 2003, at 19:24:25
hi kinsey, I often mull over this question.
It definately does not sound silly at all. I believe that some of these meds DO have a tendency to actually cause weight gain due to their chemical make-up. On the other hand, I believe that the others tend to absolutely increase our appetites to where we often may not notice and before we know it-for whatever reason we feel better-we have gained weight-due to eating more, because of increased appetite. Does that make sense? Seroquel did that to me. I knew a lot of people that didn't gain much weight if any on that med, then there was me, who gained about 65-70 Lnbs. I would take the med, and within an hour, unaware, I would be eating everything!!! My appetite soared. Now, when I took the med Luvox years ago, I maintained my normal eating routine, exercise program etc., and I bloated up big time. So, if that makes sense, I hope that helps ya. This issue you bring up is such a controversial one-especially for women-but men, I know are also affected by it no doubt-it doesn't discriminate.gal
> I hope this doesn't sound silly - but why do some medications cause weight gain? is it because of an increase in appetite due to the meds or do you just gain weight while maintaining your normal eating habits? i was just curious. thanks - kinsey
