In reply to Nardil-so many side effects PLEASE HELP!!!!, posted by shrimp on June 11, 2003, at 21:14:42
Why are you on both medications? Did you start them at the same time? Don't get me wrong, I am an advocate for progressive antidepressent therapy, but It seems like you may be "pushing it" with that combo.
MOST people experience side-efects, but they eventually (over a few weeks) dissipate...most of the side-effects I experienced on Nardil, or Parnate, dissappeared with in a few weeks, but I certainly wasn't taking Wellbutrin in combination with it.
You CAN combine many meds with Nardil, or Parnate, but Wellbutrin is tricky because of its strange pharmacology. Myoclonic jerks is a not too common side-effect of Nardil, but you have to consider that both meds lower your threshold for seizure activity considerably, and a persistant myoclonic movement disorder may be the result of a lower seizure threshold. The loss of vision is low blood pressure commonly called postural (orthostatic) hypotension.
I think you may be overmedicated, to be honest, and you should consider revaluating the dosages you are taking. More is NOT always better. Your goal should be to take the least amount of medication that gives you the most positive response.
When I was on MAOIs (I took both Nardil and Parnate) I did have some bad days, and I always wanted to "up" my dose, but I think a major point that we all have to realize is that, even a healtly (non- clinical depressed) brain has good and bad days, this is normal.
