There is truth to both sides of the argument.
A drink now and again will not pose any danger, but prolonged use of alcohol does induce various biochemical changes that can greatly precipitate depresive states. Gaba, Cortisol, and Serotonin receptor modulation just to name a few.

As far as E goes, the scientific literature clearly implicates it as a far more neurotoxic chemical than alcohol. Yes it will improve tremors due to its ability to displace dopamine from the synapse but this effect is definately *not sustainable*. Ecstacy is also a marvolous antidepressant, but likewise it cannot maintain the improved neurochemistry. Tolerance, and serotogenic dendrite atrophy quickly develop. A depressive, or Parkinson's sufferer would be in a much worse state after a year of Ecstacy use.

Antidepressants and L-Dopa may be weaker drugs, but their effects are generally more sustainable.
