MAO

Posted by Questionmark on May 17, 2003, at 0:12:28

i understand that one of the functions of MAO is to destroy certain neurotransmitters that are not enclosed in a vesicle, inside the neuron (in addition to free-floating ones outside). What is the purpose of this? And if there is a good purpose for this, then might an MAO inhibitor be detrimental to something (e.g., neurons or what have you)? Anyone have any idea?
