> Oh help me! Ever since I went on risperdal (I'm on 2mg in addition to 60 mg of celexa for anxiety and OCD) I've been smoking up storm. I went from a half pack a day to a pack and a half. I just had a really bad bout of bronchitis and couldn't even stop smoking during it. I've also gained 60 pounds on the stuff. I'm wondering if other atypicals have this effect too. Risperdal has been great for my mental health but certainly not my physical health. Tried adding Wellbutrin to the mix ( I also have ADD) but I was too anxious to get up to the dose where it would have had any effect. When I first started Adderall this fall I smoked less, but that wore off pretty fast too. I'm at my wit's end. Before I started risperdal I was a normal weight and smoked a little- now I'm overweight and I smoke a lot. I tried to switch to geodon but it had very bad effects on me. My next step might be abilify but I'm wondering if abililify will be just as bad with the smoking. I know it's weight neutral so that will at least be half the battle. Oh help!
Hmmm.... this is just a hypothesis, but it could be that the Risperdal, by blocking some of your dopamine receptors (and it is definitely doing that at a dose of 2 mg), is making you have to smoke more to get the same satisfaction. Abilify may be better in this regard.Adderall, Ritalin and the like have always made me want to smoke up a storm.... pumping in nicotine into your body when you're already reved up on a stim can be really euphoric. Of course, I've never taken them non-recreationally, so I can't comment on that.
