> Hi,
> Recently on 50 mg topamax for TLE..had a lot of side effects. I think I could have gotten through them but for the "taste peversion." Wasn't like "hmm this tastes different" more like "ugh this is going to make me sick" - it kept spreading to more and more foods. Couldn't eat ANYTHING except crackers for days. Shame because I couldn't get past this..first few days were good.

Geez, I don't know what other AED's you have been on previously for TLE, or whether this is your first trial of an AED (and it happens to be Topamax). The "first-line" med for TLE is supposedly Tegretol. Have you been on that yet? Trileptal is a newer version of Teg that interacts with other meds less and doesn't stimulate liver enzymes. Nausea is relatively common with Teg/Trileptal though. However, sfx are very individual with meds. I'm on Depakote and get little nausea-yet it tends to nauseate people in high percentages. Depakote would probably be a "2nd line" AED for TLE if Teg/Trileptal are intolerable or do not work. Dep. is fairly porkogenic though, so that limits its utility for sure. One thing though, pretty much all food tastes great!
