In reply to Prozac or Lexapro? Which packs on more lbs?, posted by Joanie on March 27, 2003, at 15:09:16
Yes, I also gained quite a bit of weight on Lexapro because of a constant craving for carbohydrates. It was so bad that I went to sleep at night thinking about what I would eat in the morning for breakfast :))) I've since switched to Fluoxetine and I do not have a craving for carbs. and I'm even losing weight. I took Lexapro for about 3 months and I gained about 10-15 pounds. Dispite the weight gain this wasn't the reason that I quit. Overall Lexapro is a good med. if it's well suited for your chemistry.
God Bless
Edgefield> I took Prozac for a couple of years and gained some weight slowly, but surely. Then 'bout 5 or 6 months ago, switched to Lexapro and starting gaining weight quickly! I mean, it almost seemed like a lb. a day. Horrible! I love the happy feeling I have with Lexapro but and quitting it because I've gained so much weight. However, I was wondering if maybe I should go back on Prozac. I know I need something. Isn't there anything to take that can make you mentally feel great AND not make you gain? Has anyone else had this experience - the rapid gaining with Lexapro?
