Scot,
I am Effexor, too. I do not have the same side effcts you do though. My problem is excessive sweating. My pdoc has me taking it in the morning (I don't remember what his reason was).
I've thought about changing to an evening dose, too, to sleep through the side effect.
Wish I could help more. Anybody out there able to give us some info?
