Ritalin SR (Slow Release) - how long?

i took my first ritalin SR, 20 mg, and felt nothing
should i call my doc and suggest raising the dose, or does it take a while to work?
i expected it to be like caffeine.. i feel.. normal, calm, content, right away ....
replies MUCH appreciated.... i don't want to lose any more of the best years of my life waiting for a normal life to begin than necessary (and after having tasted normalacy on caffeine, i really want to feel that way)
